Meanwhile, the rest of the group waits on board with at least one adult. Then everyone regroups and the tour continues.

The whole group on one boat
From 1 to 13 people, with a captain and guide. There is no minimum age: young children are welcome.

Ages 10 and up. They swim about 80 m (260 ft) through a natural tunnel, with a life jacket and the guide beside them, and stay 30 minutes.

Who stays on board
Children under 10 and anyone who’d rather not swim wait on the boat, always with at least one adult from the group.

How the tour works
The order of the stops changes with the tide, park ranger instructions and the captain’s judgment. Since the boat is just for your group, the guide paces each stop to suit you, within the 3 hours.
01Arrival at Marina Punta Mita
We meet you at the marina meeting point. Check-in, wristbands, life jackets and a safety briefing, just with your group, before boarding.
02Boat ride to the Marietas Islands
We set off at the time you chose. It’s 9 km (about 5.6 miles) from the marina to Islas Marietas National Park, the shortest distance from any port in Banderas Bay.
03Tour around the islands
We sail around the volcanic formations of Isla Larga and Isla Redonda. We see the Puente de Piedra stone arch and the blue-footed booby nesting area from the boat.
04Snorkeling at an authorized site
With mask, snorkel and life jacket, at one of the sites the park designates. No fins, to protect the coral. Children snorkel with a life jacket under the supervision of an adult from their group; anyone who’d rather not swim stays on board.
05Hidden Beach, for those who booked access
People aged 10 or older with access swim about 80 m (260 ft) through the tunnel with the guide and stay inside for 30 minutes, the time set by CONANP. The rest of the group waits on the boat with at least one adult.
06Landing at Playa La Nopalera
The whole group steps ashore on the sandy part of the beach, on the north side of Isla Larga, the only stretch where the park’s management program allows landings.
07Return to the marina
Boat ride back to Marina Punta Mita. You arrive about 3 hours after departure: around 11:00 AM if you left at 8:00 AM, around 6:00 PM if you left at 3:00 PM.
Frequently asked questions
How long is the private Marietas Islands tour and what time does it leave?
It lasts 3 hours. You choose the departure time between 8:00 AM and 3:00 PM, Tuesday to Sunday, depending on availability in the calendar. Please arrive 15 minutes early. Entering Hidden Beach depends on the tide: if the tide expected at your time makes it difficult, we’ll suggest an adjustment by WhatsApp or email as early as possible. There are no departures on Mondays because the park is closed.
How does the optional Hidden Beach access work?
When you book, you choose how many people go without Hidden Beach and how many go with Hidden Beach. The whole group does the full tour on the same boat. At Isla Redonda, those with access swim with the guide to the beach and stay 30 minutes; the rest wait on board with at least one adult from the group. Then everyone continues together.
How much does the private Marietas Islands tour cost?
The price has two parts: the boat, which depends on the total number of people on board, and Hidden Beach access, paid only by those who go in. Private boat: $400 USD for 1–2 people, depending on group size; Without Hidden Beach: counts toward the boat price and With Hidden Beach (10+): boat + $100 USD per person. Everyone in the group counts toward the boat price, whatever their age. Your group’s total appears in the quote tool at the top of this page, along with the boat price table. Park access wristbands are already included.
What’s included?
- Private boat with captain and guide, just for your group.
- A tour of the park with a landing at Playa La Nopalera, a view of the Puente de Piedra stone arch, blue-footed booby watching and snorkeling at an authorized site.
- Snorkeling gear (mask and snorkel) and life jacket.
- Water and soft drinks.
- Park access wristbands for the whole group.
- For those who book it: a guaranteed Hidden Beach access permit.
There are no extra fees at the dock.
Can young children come?
Yes. There is no minimum age to come aboard, and everyone in the group counts toward the maximum of 13 people. Children can snorkel with a life jacket under the supervision of an adult from their group and land on Playa La Nopalera. Only entry to Hidden Beach requires being at least 10.
Who looks after the children while others go into the beach?
At least one adult from the group stays on board with the children under 10 during the 30-minute beach visit. This is a condition for booking this tour when traveling with children who can’t go in.
Who can add entry to the crater beach?
People aged 10 or older, with no exceptions, because it involves swimming about 80 m (260 ft) through a natural tunnel. There is no fixed maximum age: from 65 on, we recommend it for people in good physical condition who are comfortable swimming 80 m (260 ft) with a life jacket. Pregnant women and people with reduced mobility or back, neck or heart problems can’t go in; they can enjoy the rest of the tour on board.
Is entry to the crater beach guaranteed?
For each person who books access, entry is guaranteed on the date you chose, within the 116 spots available each day. What we can’t control is the sea:
- If the tide makes entry difficult at your time, we’ll suggest an adjustment by WhatsApp or email.
- If the forecast or the authorities say it isn’t safe to go out, or the Port Authority closes the port, we let you know as early as possible so you can change the date at no cost or get a full refund.
- If the tour goes out but, once at the islands, the swell doesn’t allow entry to the beach, we complete the rest of the tour and refund $100 USD for each person who paid for access and couldn’t go in.
Do I need to know how to swim?
Only those going into Hidden Beach need to be comfortable swimming about 80 m (260 ft), with a mandatory life jacket and the guide beside them. Snorkeling is optional and also done with a life jacket. Non-swimmers can enjoy the tour from the boat and land on Playa La Nopalera.
How long is the visit to the crater beach?
30 minutes. That’s the maximum time set by CONANP so that all 116 visitors of the day can go in. Park rangers organize entry in turns.
How is this different from other island tours?
On this tour the boat is private and each person decides whether to go into Hidden Beach, so families with children of all ages travel together. If everyone in your group is 10 or older and wants to go in, the private Lovers Beach tour includes everyone’s access in one price per boat. If you’re looking for a budget option and don’t need your own boat, there is the shared tour of the same islands, without Hidden Beach entry.
How far in advance should I book?
You can book up to 24 hours before departure, but we recommend booking at least 2 weeks ahead, especially in high season and for weekends: Hidden Beach’s daily limit of 116 people is shared among all operators.
How do I get to Marina Punta Mita? Is there parking?
By car, the marina is about 25 minutes from Sayulita and from Bucerías, 45 minutes from Nuevo Vallarta and between 1 hour and 1 hour 30 minutes from Puerto Vallarta, depending on the area. There is a small free parking lot at the marina; if it’s full, you can park on the street in front of it.
Is hotel transportation included?
No. The tour starts at Marina Punta Mita. If you need transportation, we can arrange it on WhatsApp for an additional charge, which depends on where you’re staying and how many people are in your group.
What should I bring?
- Swimsuit already on, towel and a change of clothes for each person.
- Cap and sunglasses.
- Biodegradable sunscreen, applied at least 30 minutes before getting in the water.
- Cash for the marina restroom (MXN $10), since the boat has no restroom.
- If you want to take your phone into Hidden Beach, a waterproof pouch; they’re sold at the marina.
You can bring snacks, but they can’t be eaten inside the park.
What wildlife can we see?
Year-round, blue-footed boobies and reef fish. From December to March, humpback whales may appear on the way to the islands, and sometimes dolphins, but this is wildlife and sightings are not guaranteed. If seeing whales is your goal, the whale watching tour runs from December 10 to March 22.
Can I cancel or change the date? What happens if the weather is bad?
- If you cancel more than 24 hours in advance, we refund 100%. Within that same window you can also change the date or time at no cost, subject to availability.
- With less than 24 hours’ notice, or if you don’t show up, there is no refund.
- If the Port Authority closes the port due to weather, you choose between another date or a full refund. During hurricane season there can be intermittent closures; we let you know as early as possible.
- Refunds go back to the original payment method and take 5 to 10 business days.
